LIST PICK

CNTR OBSESSION

Today, London-via-Stockholm production talent CNTR completes his debut EP with a remix of previous List Pick ‘Fire’, a weird, minimalist introduction ‘There’s Something About You’, and another infectious ear-worm ‘Obsession’. Peter Jonason’s pop-tilted vocals are softly enveloped by his two favourite elements - piano and percussion. The song opens with haphazardly falling beats, slowly building up into a distinct arrangement with warped vocals swoons. For the majority, ‘Obsession’ swirls around just one verse containing a repeated question, “what do you see in me?” As with ‘Fire’, Jonason exposes insecurity, anxiety and self-doubt, because even though he’s in a potentially happy situation, he can’t believe that it’s for real. This is an experience most people go through at one time in their life, and so we’re drawn to this accessible emotion through the left-of-centre electronics and cinematic, clipped piano chords.
